Wahoo Grill Decatur Wedding | Melanie + Matt

Decatur, GA

Matt and Melanie’s wedding day was a dream! It was the day before we found out that gatherings were going to be limited and potentially banned for some time. The beginning of the Corona pandemic, and a turning point for us all. Looking back on this day, remembering what it was like to be in a room full of people without fear is a sweet reminder that being together is what we were created to do. We were created to gather! To congregate, to celebrate- I do believe we will never take this gift for granted here on out.

I wrote a lot about this incredible couple on their engagement session (see here), and I truly mean it when I say, they are a JOY to be around. Each part of their wedding day was filled with googly-eyes and giggles. I was beyond impressed, and not all too surprised, by all the detail that went into their day to make it their own. It was nothing short of unique, expressive and “them”. In true M&M fashion, they brought Corona beer to toast to their almost-misfortune, had pie in place of cake (as their wedding date (3.14) was pie-day!!), had a family affair of the best shoes on the dance floor, and so much more. The intimate garden-vibe of their chosen venue was inspiring and as romantic as they are, and our “before” location in downtown Decatur truly represented their creativity and urban flare. It’s also obvious this bride and groom had MOVES on that dance floor.

This will go down as one of my most memorable weddings yet, not only because of Matt and Melanie and who they are, but because of what this “last wedding” revealed to me: That this job of mine is so precious and dear to my heart, as are the couples/families I work with. That big or small, these are the memories we hold to, fight for, look forward to once more. That even when this life brings such a sweeping of time, work, and space and scares us into believing that things will never be the same- its true. They will be better, we will rise bonded, and we when we do, it will be a loud, lengthy celebration.
