City of Chicago Engagement | Martha + Eric

Chicago, IL

I love cities. And by love, I mean, I once had a dream of living in New York City, with all the hustle + bustle, all the coffee shops and the soundtrack of car horns and footsteps. My dreams have shifted slightly, but my heart comes alive in such a place. I had never visited Chicago before, and Martha (a friend of mine for years) reached out, offering to hire me for a weekend of exploring her and Eric’s current home-base, while capture their engagement session. It wasn’t even a thought before I agreed! Autumn played out perfectly in our favor, as these yellow trees turned just in time. You could see these beauties straight from their apartment, as well as the famous Riverwalk. (All I could hear in my head was Frank Sinatra’s “My Kind of Town”, as I dreamily sat by the window in the mornings, taking in the breathtaking view.) They wanted to capture this incredibly unique time in their lives where they could walk to work, live in a prime location, and enjoy such a fun town together.

We began around their daily “neighborhood” and then traveled out to one of the best views of the skyline- also the spot where Eric proposed to Martha on a day she least expected it. With the windy city having frequent flash storms, we almost got rained out of our second half of the evening! But once we arrived, we noticed the clouds had parted, giving us a cotton candy sky and the most romantic sunset scene.
